Rosy fingers close
Around the throat of a long day
And what a stupefying
Final breath to take
Is it tomorrow where you are?
Well I just can’t seem to recall
If I count fourteen hours forward
Or behind
And the cigarettes
That I bought to impress you
I left ‘em in my pocket and ran through the wash
And now they’re soft and so am I
Do my questions bear repeating?
I can’t tell and it’s been
Eating me alive
Do I rephrase or let it slide?
I hear the opening bars of “Lola”driving home
I turn the dial
I turn to stone
Before a single word’s been sung
Shangri-la-la-la-la-la
I count to ten and back again
And then once more
Just to be sure that nothing’s changed
Holy roller
Panic attack
Your knots unwind
Turning water to brine
It’s no surprise
Rosy fingers close
Around the throat of a long day
And what a stupefying
Final breath to take
Is it tomorrow where you are?
Well I just can’t seem to recall
If I count fourteen hours forward
Or behind
And the cigarettes
That I bought to impress you
I left ‘em in my pocket and ran through the wash
And now they’re soft and so am I
Do my questions bear repeating?
I can’t tell and it’s been
Eating me alive
Do I rephrase or let it slide?
